- Buy-In
vs. Rental - What
is the difference, right now and in the long run?
When "buying in", a large sum of money is required up front.
If you choose to leave early, you may lose a percentage of that amount.
In addition, many buy in home's (and some assisted living homes) require
a large entrance fee in addition to your monthly fees. In rental retirement,
such as Oak Leaf Manor, payment terms are month-to-month.
At Oak Leaf, you'll pay month-to-month, allowing you the freedom
to be in control of your finances. There are NO ENTRANCE FEES, so you
can plan your finances at your own comfort, always knowing there are
no hidden fees or costs.
-
Discharged
from Hospital? Coming from home? Short term/long term?
Does the facility accommodate short-term stays for recovery purposes?
If coming from a private residence, will the facility advise and assist
with the move?
We accommodate placements from many different types of facilities,
as well as assist with the move. We also accommodate short term/respite
stays, and can assist in securing physical therapy through our in-house
providers.
-
What
about care levels?
What if more help is needed? Will I have
to move?
What if more care is needed over times of illness or recovery? What
if the current medical diagnosis progresses? Can care levels be increased
as care needs increase? Are there residents in the facility currently
on care levels? When care increases, must the residents move to other
locations, or can they receive increased services in the privacy of
their room?
At Oak Leaf, we offer three
care levels, providing a safety net to keeping you out of the nursing
home system for as long as possible. Residents remain in their chosen
accommodations and receive extra care in the privacy of their rooms.
-
What
is the quality of life like? Will I like it here?
Stop and ask a resident if he/she enjoys living there. Notice if other
residents appear content, smiling, or are engaged in activities with
staff. Are social programs offered? Ask for an activity schedule.
From group friendship clubs, to health seminars, to bingo, card
club and games, there's always "something for everyone"
at Oak Leaf! We also secure entertainers such as singers, musicians,
dancers and other performers throughout the month.
-
Is
the staff friendly? Do they appear professional?
It's important that you feel the staff is competent. Ask if their
licenses are current. Make eye contact with staff, and smile. Do the
react appropriately?
Our genuinely caring staff members are subject to hours of training
before they take care of your loved ones. Our nursing staff must pass
our own standard of testing before administering any medications.
All staff must pass Pennsylvania State criminal background examinations
to be employed at Oak Leaf Manor North and South.
-
Is
the home wheelchair friendly?
Will the halls accommodate wheelchairs? Will staff assist if illness
or weakness prevents the resident from self-propelling? Do you see
wheelchairs, or residents with motorized vehicles?
Not only is Oak Leaf wheelchair friendly,
our Care Levels provide complete assistance with mobility, if needed.
We serve a variety of residents, those who use wheelchairs, walkers,
and canes or are independently mobile. If you need assistance with
a wheelchair, even if it for your entire stay with us, our staff will
assist you in getting the help you need to live well.
-
What's the food like? It's not like
a hospital, is it?
Always visit over a mealtime! This is a great opportunity to see what
limitations are accepted, as most of the residents will be in the
dining area. Are special diets accommodated, like pureed food or thickened
liquids? Ask a resident if they enjoy the meals and selection offered.
Residents enjoy menu selection with waitress service to each table
at Oak Leaf. Most special diets are accommodated for no extra charge.
Our delicious menus afford several selections at each meal, including
your choice of hot entrees, salad and fruit plates, homemade soups,
deli sandwiches and desserts.
-
What's
included? Are there any hidden costs?
As you tour, critically examine the building. Does it look clean?
Does it smell clean? Are meals, laundry, housekeeping and maintenance
services included in the daily rate?
At Oak Leaf, our rates provide all inclusive
amenities. Our expertly trained team of Housekeepers keep the buildings
beautifully clean, and our professional laundress gives extra care
and attention to each residents garments. All amenity services and
all meals are included in one affordable daily rate.
- Will
I be able to see my doctor? What if I want or need a different doctor?
It's always important to have access to the best medical care available
to feel your best. Be particular when asking this question, because
some homes require you to see "their" panel of physicians.
This can include podiatrists, opthamologists, and so on. Many individuals
have a long standing relationship with their physician. They're comfortable,
and wish to continue this relationship. Others need a new doctor, especially
if moving from out of town. You might not want to go to the physician
the home requires.
Not
only can we help you secure a physician, (if you don't currently have
one or wish to switch to a new doctor) but we'll help you get there!
Free transportation to doctor appointments is offered weekly, with few
restrictions. Some local physicians even visit their patients right
here at Oak Leaf, so leaving your home is not necessary. From podiatrists,
to internists, to family doctors, to psychological services, we can
help you obtain the best medical services.

make. When it comes to your retirement years, we want you to get the
